Lady, the Red-Crested Turaco, passed away today. Lady was special for many reasons. The most obvious was that unlike all the other residents at the sanctuary she was not a parrot. Her species are native to Africa. Their feathers have a bueatiful metalic sheen and they eat mainly fruit . She loved flying around the sanctuary and her colorful presence will be missed.

Mountain Vista Bird Haven's new building is finally nearly done!! It will give all the birds a lot more room to stretch their wings, and will give us a lot more space to move around and store supplies. It has a kitchenette with a dishwasher which will make it much easier to feed the 9 birds that will be living in the new building (George, Lady, Lorie Lye, Timmy, Cher, "Little" George, Tye, Cookie and Molly). We still have a few finishing touches and then it will be a long day moving all of the birds and supplies into the new building from the garage they are living in now!!!

The parrots staying in the house now have doors to seperate their area from the rest of the house!!! While it makes caring for them a lot easier, most of the birds liked being able to peak through the old curtains!! Here Snowball and Tickles enjoy the view!

Mountain Vista Bird Haven and Sanctuary has moved from Sandia Park, New Mexico (about half an hour outside of Albuquerque) to Morganton, North Carolina (an hour and a half from Charolotte). For a while all 20 birds will be in smaller rooms than they're used to until an additional building can be raised. Despite the cross-country journey all of the birds are doing well and adjusting to their new surroundings. Nine of the birds are staying in the modified garage and the rest are staying in the connected formal dining and sitting rooms.
